You are secure, they are anxious

You are the thing that settles them, and expect it to take far longer than seems reasonable. Reassurance does not land once and stay landed for somebody who is braced for losing you.

You — Secure

Comfortable close, comfortable apart, and able to say which one they need today.

Them — Anxious

Wants closeness and watches for the loss of it, so silence gets read as an answer.

What actually happens

The mistake that secure people make here is reassuring properly, once, and then treating the question as closed. When it comes back a fortnight later, it reads as neediness rather than as the same fear arriving again. You get quietly tired, they feel the tiredness, and the fear gets its evidence.

What this one needs

Predictability beats intensity for them every single time. A small thing you always do is worth more than a big thing you do occasionally. And say the boring part out loud: where you are, when you will be back, that nothing is wrong. It costs you almost nothing and it is most of what they need.

Something you can send

Nothing is wrong between us. I'm just tired, and I'll be better company tomorrow.
